It was an exciting first day of the Agent Insight Tour!  Started off in Portland, ME at the headquarters of MEMIC where  John Leonard, President and CEO, gave us a great send off on our 4 week tour – 15 states – 65 agencies. John is also the 2009 Chair of ACORD’s Board of Directors and he talked about the importance of standards and the importance of carriers, vendors, and agents working together.  After enjoying some coffee and donuts with John and the MEMIC underwriting team, we drove to our first agency in Falmouth, ME.

We visited the Bradish-Young Insurance Agency, who is part of the United Insurance Group a statewide organization of independent insurance professionals who have combined their resources to provide comprehensive business and personal insurance. We met with Dean Alofs, agency manager and Sandra Wing, CSR. They have over $60 million in written premium with 70% in Commercial and 30% in Personal lines.

Then we made our way to Exeter, NH where we enjoyed a great lunch at a local eatery,  Green Bean on the Water – great mexican salad and black bean soup.  Our second agency visit was with the Foy Insurance Group in Exeter.  Foy Insurance Group has offices in 3 states and over $70 million in written premium split of 40% Commercial and 60% Personal lines.  Foy Insurance is one of New England’s 50 largest insurance agencies, representing more than 100 carriers throughout its various lines of business. The family still maintains principal ownership, with father, sons and uncles driving the agency’s success from the Exeter, New Hampshire headquarters. We had a great meeting with CFO, Mike Foy, who shared his experience and insights with us.

Tomorrow we are back in New Hampshire to visit an agency in Nashua and then on to Massachusetts!
